Here is a list of author events, exhibitions, and other events happening in October.

UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS AT MONTICELLO SOLO EXHIBITION

An exhibition featuring original pages from author/artist Sean Fitzgibbon’s book “What Follows Is True: Crescent Hotel” can be viewed in the Glassblock Gallery in the Taylor Library at University of Arkansas Monticello from October 4 – November 15. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 1:00 pm with a closing reception November 15, 4:30 – 5:30.

2023 WITCHES ESCAPE

Author / artist Sean Fitzgibbon will be selling and signing copies of his graphic nonfiction book “What Follows is True: Crescent Hotel” and selling prints Friday October 6th at the Eureka Springs Community Center as part of the annual Witches Escape, a magical Halloween themed adventure throughout Downtown Eureka Springs that combines the action of a scavenger hunt with the thrill of a historical mystery. Event participants are invited to dress in witchy garb and compete in cackling and costume contests, learn a special witches dance, and play Witches Shopping Bingo for a chance to win some amazing prizes from local shops and crafts people. This year’s event has been expanded into two days (Friday Oct 6 and Saturday Oct 7), with unique experiences planned for each day. All witches and wizards ages 18 and up are invited to attend the Witches Escape. The event is a benefit for the Eureka Springs Historical Museum.

2023 JOPLIN WRITERS’ FAIRE

Join us Saturday, October 7th, 10:00am-1:00pm at the Jopllin Public Library for the 2023 Joplin Writers’ Faire.  Held annually, the Joplin Writers’ Faire connects all sorts of writers to their existing and potentially new audiences while encouraging community support of local and regional writers.

Sean Fitzgibbon will be selling and signing copies of his book What Follows is True: Crescent Hotel as well as prints and postcards. Stop by and say hi and pick up your copy on Saturday.

The Joplin Writers’ Faire is a collaboration between Post Art Library and Joplin Public Library. Our 2023 event is sponsored by Friends of the Joplin Public Library. This is a FREE, public event. All ages welcome. Library card and registration not necessary.

BOOKISH BOOKSTORE AUTHOR EVENT

Bookish: An Indie Shop for Folks Who Read is thrilled to welcome Sean Fitzgibbon for an in person event to celebrate his graphic non-fiction work, What Follows is True: Crescent Hotel, on Saturday, October 14, 12:30 PM in Fort Smith. The author will be discussing and signing copies of his new book. Pick up your copy on Saturday, October 14 at Bookish!

His documentary-style graphic nonfiction, What Follows is True, explores the Crescent Hotel’s strange two years as the Baker Hospital, one of the darkest and most controversial legends in the town of Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

TRUE LIT: SELF-PUBLISHING PANEL DISCUSSION

True Lit is back for its 10th year to showcase author events! Join us at Fayetteville Public Library, October 15 from 2-3 PM for a panel discussion on self-publishing with several local self-published authors. 

Meet the panelists: 

Talya Tate Boerner - Moderator is an award-winning author of three books (The Accidental Salvation of Gracie Lee, Gene Everywhere and Bernice Runs Away), the founder of One Mississippi Press LLC.

Ashley Clontz  is a mom of two, corporate writer and children's book author of "Giraffe, What Do You Like to Eat?".

Sean Fitzgibbon is a 2021 Artists 360 recipient and a 2023 recipient of the Arkansas Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship Award for his graphic nonfiction “What Follows Is True: Crescent Hotel.

Cindy Quayle  is the author of the cozy mystery book, "Death on Cozumel Island". Cindy is currently working on the second book for the Claire O' Keefe mysteries.

The True Lit festival is devoted to the tremendous literary traditions Northwest Arkansas has fostered over the years. True Lit is in collaboration with the Fayetteville Public Schools, Fayetteville Public Education Foundation, Walton Arts Center, University of Arkansas Program in Creative Writing and Translation and Altrusa International of Fayetteville, Arkansas.

21C EXHIBIT

Sean Fitzgibbon’s exhibit at 21c Museum Hotel has been extended to November 15. Original pages from his book “What Follows Is True: Crescent Hotel” are now being exhibited at 21c Museum Hotel on the fourth floor gallery in downtown Bentonville from mid April through early October. Be sure to check out the exhibition and pick up a copy of the book in the 21c gift shop.

BELLA VISTA PUBLIC LIBRARY • AUTHOR EVENT

Local award winning author/artist Sean Fitzgibbon will be at the Bella Vista Public Library, October 18 discussing his graphic nonfiction book “What Follows Is True: Crescent Hotel”. This fully illustrated book explores the stories surrounding the Crescent Hotels strange and tragic two years as The Baker Hospital, a Depression Era cancer hospital. The author will be available to sign books after the presentation. This event is part of the Bella VIsta Public Library Adult Speaker Series.

2023 DEATHRAY ILLUSTRATION AND PRINT EXPO

Death Ray is a one of a kind THEMED SHOW focusing on our community of amazing Illustrators, artists and Cartoonists. ARKANSAS PARANORMAL EXPO

Join us at the Arkansas Paranormal Expo, October 28th and 29th. Sean Fitzgibbon will be selling and signing his graphic nonfiction What Follows Is True: Crescent Hotel along with What Follows Is True post cards and prints. The Arkansas Paranormal Expo has grown to be the biggest and most popular event of its kind in all of Arkansas.
