Here is a small painting I did from a trip to Athens, Greece from an ancient marble, relief sculpture of the goddess Nike adjusting her sandal from an Ionic frieze on the temple of Athena Nike which featured beautiful sculptural decoration. In Greek mythology Nike is portrayed as a symbol of victory, strength, and speed. I like that it is a goddess portrayed in a simple, everyday gesture that is both charming and elegant. This beautiful relief is on display in the Acropolis Museum in Athens.
